BJ’s has just added their limited edition annual release of Grand Cru! This incredible Belgian tripel is actually quite light and won’t leave you feeling like a belly full of jelly this winter season. This lovely, warming beer comes in a fun BJ’s glass. Order this beer as soon as you’re seated, because the deeper flavors come out the more it warms!

Our server Bridget told us that BJ’s Grand Cru pairs perfectly with their Cherry Chipotle Salmon and their Spicy Pig Tavern Cut Pizza! Drooling yet?!

Brownie Points: BJ’s has gluten-free, vegetarian, AND vegan options available!

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant

Head brewer Pim “Dutch” Harmsen recently released Iron Hill’s winter beers: Russian Imperial Stout and Reindeer’s Revenge (formerly known as Rudolph’s Revenge).

Iron Hill is actually known around the world for their Russian Imperial Stout. In fact, they won a silver medal for it at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado! You’ll taste complexities of coffee, dark bitter chocolate, and tobacco in this full-bodied beer that’s so dark you can’t see through your pint glass—or, wait, did you just get way too drunk? No, it’s just that dark. Iron Hill’s Russian Imperial is sweet yet bright, as it’s brewed with American hops. Pim also suggests aging this beer as it’s an excellent candidate for the process!

Reindeer’s Revenge is effing amazing, y’all. An American tripel, this delicious beer is brewed like a tripel but set-hopped with American hops. Those wonderful banana and clove notes come through, as well as piny, resinous, juicy flavors as well. This yummy brew isn’t super sweet and is the perfect companion to your soul on a cold winter’s night!

Fun (but super unfair) Fact: Apparently Disney had a hissy fit over Iron Hill’s use of the name Rudolph and filed a cease and assist that they change their beer name! The result was renaming the beer to Reindeer’s Revenge. Still the same amazing beer, just named after a generic deer rather than the one with a very shiny nose.

The weather is getting slightly too cold for camping these days—but if you still want that feeling of unplugging your electronics and settling into the beautiful outdoors, we highly recommend booking a cottage or cabin at Refreshing Mountain Retreat Center! Rejuvenate your relationship with both nature and your family/friends.

Refreshing Mountain’s newly built family-style cabins provide a clean, restful, and wholesome opportunity to get away with your entire family or friend group. All you have to worry about is relaxing and having fun. You can take a hike on their woodland grounds with gorgeous overlooks or enjoy togetherness around a campfire. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, add one or more of their outdoor adventure activities to your cabin rental—canopy zipline tours, horse rides, or the farm animal experience! They even offer a special discount for this combination.

The cottage cabins are fully furnished, sleep up to 8 people in 2 bedrooms (1 queen bed and 4 bunk beds), have a private bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. Every cabin is heated for your comfort (and has AC in the summer, too.)

Bonus: All pricing includes WiFi, linens, and towels. There are also meeting spaces in select cabins.

“JUST A KID”

Everyone is “Just a Kid” from somewhere, but Exit Lancaster students are different than most other kids. By growing up in Lancaster and being a part of this substantial program, Exit Lancaster students learn the fundamental values of giving back to their community.

Exit Lancaster’s Just A Kid campaign is not just about the positive impact this non-profit program strives to provide for its students, but more about the exceptional students themselves—the ones who are involved. Since 2003, Exit Lancaster kids have volunteered over 10,000 hours of their time—just one of the many ways in which Exit Lancaster’s core lessons have been implemented in their everyday lives.

“Exit Lancaster, to me, is mostly based off of community involvement. They always encourage us to do community service, be involved in our community, and know what is going on around us—how it betters ourselves being aware of what is going on around us, how the community is always there for you, and how you should always be there for your community,” explains an Exit Lancaster student, Danae.

When students and their families commit to the hard work, principles, and fun which encompass Exit Lancaster, a whole world of opportunities open up. With your help, Exit Lancaster can continue to encourage, educate, and mentor students to give back to their community, and create a winning life plan.

GET INVOLVED

Ready to get involved? Join Exit Lancaster’s Just A Kid campaign by getting involved. You can donate, mentor a student, volunteer, or purchase one of our “Just A Kid” t-shirts online.

As the season changes so does the drink menu here at TTDLanc. We’ve put away the gin and tonics and margaritas and salt and are now turning our attention to some tasty bourbons and whiskeys. Even though we do drink whisky all year round we love it even more as the outside temperature cools.

To fill us in on drinks worthy of our pallets for this time of year TTDLanc has a resident whiskey spirit guide. First up is Booker’s Bourbon.

BookersBurbonLancasterPA

Booker’s is bourbon as Booker Noe intended it: uncut with water (so it’s 64.45% ABV!) and unfiltered which offers a fuller-bodied whiskey. Reputedly this bourbon is selected from American oak barrels on the fifth and sixth floors of the nine-story rackhouse, the “sweet spot” of the warehouse per Booker Noe, the whiskey’s namesake and Jim Beam’s grandson. There the temperature helps the spirit to extract the most favor from the wood itself. It is indeed a most flavorful bourbon.

If you are patient with your whiskey, the flavors and aromas can provide for both enjoyment and appreciation.

At 64.45% ABV (other batches will vary), nose this one carefully! You will want to add water to the whiskey to take off the “nose prickle.” In time you may get aromas of spearmint, creamy vanilla, cinnamon baked goods, a whiff of Old Spice aftershave, light sawdust and other recondite aromas.

In the mouth it full bodied with bourbon quintessential flavors of intense sweetness, spice, and drying oak. The considerable oak influence gives way to a minty finish. Be sure to add enough water to nose and taste with comfort.
