Harrisburg is a city that is constantly on the move! With so much hustle and bustle, finding a quiet space to decompress and relax is so important.

Wildwood Park, located on the outskirts of Harrisburg, offers visitors an escape into a world of beautiful flora and fauna. Sit under the beautiful trees and reflect on your day, or take a lakeside walk along one of several scenic trails located throughout the park. Wildwood has become known as a bird watchers paradise, with numerous species found in a truly natural setting.

The Delta Boardwalk winds its way through the marsh and woodlands, offering prime viewing areas for Canada geese, ducks, and blackbirds. If you are looking to learn more about topics related to our natural world, a Nature Center located within the park offers family friendly programs and special events catering to all age groups. The Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 4pm and includes an exhibit area as well as a Nature Store filled with unique and interesting items.

If you are looking for a place to commune with nature, or a location to picnic and enjoy quality time with your family, Wildwood Park is for you. The Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily. For more information, visit Wildwood Park online at www.wildwoodlake.org.

If you’re a fan of live music, then Lancaster City is THE place to be on Thursday, April 12th as the 10th annual Launch Music Conference and Festival gets underway! Launch runs over four days, showcasing a variety of musical genres as well as high-quality panel discussions. We could go into more detail, but we thought we’d let the founder of this amazing event, Jeremy Weiss, break it down!

“I just don’t think it’s possible to mention only one thing I’m stoked about at The 10th Annual LAUNCH Music Conference & Festival! We have the World Premiere of the film Barn Burner, the story of the incredible number of world-renown metal and hardcore bands and musicians, from seemingly the most unlikely of places: the quiet, conservative, Amish country, Lancaster County.  We have a show with multi-platinum artist, PnB Rock. We have a one-of-a-kind acoustic performance from members of seminal indie/metal icons, Underoath, we have the 2nd installment of Fest Friday at LAUNCH, where thousands gather outdoors at Binns Park for unique food, drink, and  stages of live music, and we have the 15th Anniversary Show of twice-Grammy nominated August Burns Red, featuring reunions of past lineups to include older songs, that haven’t been part of their set in nearly a decade, as well as their biggest hits! That doesn’t even BEGIN to address the panel schedule by day, STACKED with today’s most successful, insightful, and talented Industry Professionals from around the country.  I’m particularly fired up to see the panel with Talinda Bennington, widow of Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, as well as Jim Digby (Linkin Park Team) and Anna Shinoda (wife of Linkin Park guitarist Mike Shinoda), addressing mental health and the stresses of a career in music.”

See our point? Needless to say, we’re SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED!  Passes and individual tickets, as well as the full schedule of panels and nighttime entertainment, are available here.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” —Albert Einstein

Refreshing Mountain was founded in the early 1980s as a place for families to feel refreshed. Marlin and Sharon Harnish originally started out with two bunk houses and a stable where a horse camp used to stand. Currently, Refreshing Mountain hosts hundreds of groups and thousands of individuals each year.

Refreshing Mountain offers several types of packages to enrich lives of visitors and fulfill their innate sense of curiosity and connection with themselves, animals, and nature. Through their Farm Animal Experience, guests will experience a close-up and hands-on experience to explore some common (or not so common) farm animals such as horses, ponies, goats, alpacas, chickens, pigs, and more! Your group will learn how to safely handle and interact with these animals and you’ll even have the chance to pet, brush, or feed them. Ideal for ages five to fifteen years old, each session is guided by a qualified staff person.

Hannah Harnish, Refreshing Mountain’s Equine Programming Coordinator, gave Things To Do Lancaster a general overview of their Discover Package during an interview:

The Discovery Package includes 25- to 30-minute sessions of each activity, including a Hands-On Reptile Exhibit, GPS Nature Hunt, Sling Shots, and Archery Target Shooting. A staff member leads guests throughout the entire program. The Discovery Package is perfect for smaller families!

Refreshing Mountain also offers very exciting School Field Trips under the “Nature Education Package,” which gives the option to come and experience our nature programs curriculum and equine program to larger groups.

Close your eyes….

Imagine you are stuck in a room full of extraordinary puzzles… and passcodes…  keys and secrets… You’ve been placed there with a seemingly impossible task, and it’s up to you and your closest comrades to solve the mystery together. The kicker? You’ve only got one hour to do it! This is the type of fast-paced bonding experience you will have at the ever-exciting “Escape. on Queen!” Escape. on Queen offers three types of rooms. Two are meant for young and adult players, and the other—Shipwrecked—is perfect for young kids. Each room is based off of rich, local history!

September 1777—ages 12+

Its September 1777 and we are in the midst of the Revolutionary War; things are taking a turn for the worse. Help George Ross and his niece, Betsy, save our nation and its flag. Can you find the flag and send it westward to safety with the Continental Congress before the Loyalist intercept it? You have 1 hour to rescue the flag before the British arrive at the Ross residence. Good luck, be brave and be quick.

The Hideout—ages 12+

The year is 1950.  Families are growing, the economy is booming, and America is as strong as it’s ever been.  But somewhere across the Lancaster countryside a fearless newlywed couple has been accused of one of the most well-crafted and elaborately planned robberies the state has ever seen. Betty, a bank teller, and Paul the unassuming customer have made off with more cash than imaginable. They’ve been dubbed the “Banker Bandits” and now it’s your job to find them. You’ll have 1 hour to search their latest presumed “Hideout,” the Hess barn located amongst crops and cattle. Good luck and hurry up……

BOOK THE HIDEOUT NOW!

Shipwrecked—ages 6 to 12
A swashbuckling band of children overtook the Scarlett Lydia and have been plundering the seas and terrifying travelers for years. In the midst of a strong gale the Captain of the ship was ruthlessly tossed overboard and the pint sized pirates have run the Scarlett Lydia aground in a jungle lagoon.  They have one hour to unlock the captain’s quarters and find their way into the safety before the jungle creatures come out.

Shipwrecked is coming along slowly but surely!

In addition to their invigorating escape rooms, they also have a party room in the back of the building—it includes tables and chairs for baby/wedding showers, birthday parties, and other special events! Placing their emphasis on all things local, they try to use catering services from places like Prince Street cafe to keep it as Lancaster County based as possible.

So… are you ready to ESCAPE? Book your adventure now!
