Last evening, Creative York hosted the 2017 Monster Drawing Rally at the Central Market in downtown York, Pennsylvania. The event was sponsored by CGA Law Firm.

What is the Monster Drawing Rally?

The Creative York Monster Drawing Rally is part live art-making performance, part art-bazaar, part silent auction, and one of Creative York’s liveliest fundraising events! During the rally, artists create artwork within an hour of allotted time from start to finish right before your eyes. The live audience is then able to silently bid on the works while and after they are created. The rally offers a rare and exciting opportunity to watch artists in action and a chance to take home their completed pieces, all while supporting a good cause.

Do the artists have to create “monsters?”

Not at all! While artists were more than welcome to create monsters art, they were not limited to that subject. Individuals at the rally created mazes, collages and assemblages using magazines and record covers, clay taxidermy, felted cacti, beaded bug people, water color paintings, robot paintings, animal drawings, portraits, and so much more.

Food and drink was provided by The Busy Bee and Mudhook Brewing Co. Um, and the music as DOPE. Shawn Beck aka DJ Cache provided a chill-ass soundscape for the evening’s festivities!

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” —Albert Einstein

Refreshing Mountain was founded in the early 1980s as a place for families to feel refreshed. Marlin and Sharon Harnish originally started out with two bunk houses and a stable where a horse camp used to stand. Currently, Refreshing Mountain hosts hundreds of groups and thousands of individuals each year.

Refreshing Mountain offers several types of packages to enrich lives of visitors and fulfill their innate sense of curiosity and connection with themselves, animals, and nature. Through their Farm Animal Experience, guests will experience a close-up and hands-on experience to explore some common (or not so common) farm animals such as horses, ponies, goats, alpacas, chickens, pigs, and more! Your group will learn how to safely handle and interact with these animals and you’ll even have the chance to pet, brush, or feed them. Ideal for ages five to fifteen years old, each session is guided by a qualified staff person.

Hannah Harnish, Refreshing Mountain’s Equine Programming Coordinator, gave Things To Do Lancaster a general overview of their Discover Package during an interview:

Makers of all ages: mark your calendars for Saturday, May 6!

MakerShift—a public celebration of makers of all ages and abilities from across the Capital Region and Central PA—will be showing off their innovative and creative projects in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (S.T.E.A.M.)! MakerShift pulls together makers in an effort to make a collective impact on the places we live and work.

Every hour on the hour from 10am to 2pm, hear special speakers give lightning talks (about 10-15 minutes each) about S.T.E.A.M. trends in themed venues followed by fun and engaging project demos! Venues are in easy walking distance along 3rd Street in Midtown Harrisburg, PA.  Bring along friends and family to learn about making and talk with local makers.  MakerShift is for all ages!

FAQ About This Event:

What? MakerShift is a celebration of makers throughout the Capital Region. While some select vendors and professionals are invited to participate , MakerShift seeks to recognize the work of amateurs who tinker and create for the love of it.

When? MakerShift 2017 will be held between 9am and 3pm on Saturday, May 6th.

Where? MakerShift 2017 will take place Midtown Harrisburg on 3rd Street between StartUP Harrisburg and Susquehanna Art Museum.

How? A one day celebration will be held where local makers, volunteers, community leaders, and vendors gather together to share their work with the general public.
