Inspired by the dancey, sneaker squeakin’ musical sounds of the 80s and 90s, YOUTHFOOL brings that funky pop-rock feel to the stage—with a sexy lil’ twist of glam. All around, this band is way too fun to listen to, and they’ll definitely have you in the mood to groove.

Lucky for us, YOUTHFOOL will be stealing all of our hearts on April 29 at The Chameleon Club! These Philly natives have been working hard on their newest release—an extensive 8-track EP called “Before You Leave.”At its core, YOUTHFOOL is really a solo project by Joston Michael himself. However, a live band fills the stage when playing at venues. Singer-songwriter Joston Michael also plays lead guitar. When I first heard the song “That Strange Talk!” I legitimately freaked out, texting my buddy Ben Roth of The Kaleidoscope recording studio, as he was the one who referred Joston to Things To Do Lancaster. “That Strange Talk!” and all of the other YOUTHFOOL tunes will have you slipping into your spiffiest kicks in a jiffy, movin’ and groovin’ through the whole damn show! YOUTHFOOL’s music is reminiscent of everything I fell in love with musically in the 90s.

We are so excited to host YOUTHFOOL locally. You will most definitely see Things To Do Lancaster bopping around at the show.

You can read another awesome interview with them here.
Saturday, April 29 at The Chameleon Club.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” —Albert Einstein

Refreshing Mountain was founded in the early 1980s as a place for families to feel refreshed. Marlin and Sharon Harnish originally started out with two bunk houses and a stable where a horse camp used to stand. Currently, Refreshing Mountain hosts hundreds of groups and thousands of individuals each year.

Marlin says he would have never been able to grasp the concept of Refreshing Mountain today when he first started, but he just took one step at a time, and this is where it has led thus far.

Refreshing Mountain offers several types of packages to enrich lives of visitors and fulfill their innate sense of curiosity and connection with themselves, animals, and nature. Through their Discovery Package, guests will experience a perfect mix of nature exploration and outdoor fun. The Discovery Package includes 25- to 30-minute sessions of each activity, including a Hands-On Reptile Exhibit, GPS Nature Hunt, Sling Shots, and Archery Target Shooting. A staff member leads guests throughout the entire program. The Discovery Package is perfect for smaller families!

Refreshing Mountain also offers very exciting School Field Trips under the “Nature Education Package,” which gives the option to come and experience our nature programs curriculum and equine program to larger groups.

Mark Layton, Refreshing Mountain’s Nature Programming Coordinator, gave Things To Do Lancaster a general overview of their Discover Package during an interview:

Through a collaboration partnership between Building Character and The Candy Factory, these two local companies will be hosting the second annual Literary Festival during Spring Art Walk. This year, a Harry Potter themed festival will take over the Market Street parking lot and Warehouse D inside The Candy Factory on Saturday, May 6th from 11am to 2pm.

The Literary Festival occurs in celebration of the Little Free Library placed outside of The Candy Factory last year. This year’s family friendly party will benefit a charity through Church World Services and will include light refreshments, Harry Potter-themed games, live music, circus acts, various activities, and opportunities to donate to the selected charity.

Live music will be provided by local bands, Talk Alliance and Hilltop Gamblers. Henna tattoos and face painting (of various complexities and pricing) will be provided by Alicia Lyter, as well as Harry Potter-themed caricatures by Cory Lally. Local collage artist, Emily Truman, will have a community collage project for all to partake in. Emma Cate will be doing $6 tarot readings, and The Circus School of Lancaster will be dazzling the crowd with humor and entertainment. Homemade butterbeer will be available for purchase as well.

Dress-up is highly encouraged. For more information, please e-mail Emily Truman at emily@thesweetcore.com

Close your eyes….

Imagine you are stuck in a room full of extraordinary puzzles… and passcodes…  keys and secrets… You’ve been placed there with a seemingly impossible task, and it’s up to you and your closest comrades to solve the mystery together. The kicker? You’ve only got one hour to do it! This is the type of fast-paced bonding experience you will have at the ever-exciting “Escape. on Queen!” Escape. on Queen offers three types of rooms. Two are meant for young and adult players, and the other—Shipwrecked—is perfect for young kids. Each room is based off of rich, local history!

September 1777—ages 12+

Its September 1777 and we are in the midst of the Revolutionary War; things are taking a turn for the worse. Help George Ross and his niece, Betsy, save our nation and its flag. Can you find the flag and send it westward to safety with the Continental Congress before the Loyalist intercept it? You have 1 hour to rescue the flag before the British arrive at the Ross residence. Good luck, be brave and be quick.

The Hideout—ages 12+

The year is 1950.  Families are growing, the economy is booming, and America is as strong as it’s ever been.  But somewhere across the Lancaster countryside a fearless newlywed couple has been accused of one of the most well-crafted and elaborately planned robberies the state has ever seen. Betty, a bank teller, and Paul the unassuming customer have made off with more cash than imaginable. They’ve been dubbed the “Banker Bandits” and now it’s your job to find them. You’ll have 1 hour to search their latest presumed “Hideout,” the Hess barn located amongst crops and cattle. Good luck and hurry up……

BOOK THE HIDEOUT NOW!

Shipwrecked—ages 6 to 12
A swashbuckling band of children overtook the Scarlett Lydia and have been plundering the seas and terrifying travelers for years. In the midst of a strong gale the Captain of the ship was ruthlessly tossed overboard and the pint sized pirates have run the Scarlett Lydia aground in a jungle lagoon.  They have one hour to unlock the captain’s quarters and find their way into the safety before the jungle creatures come out.

Shipwrecked is coming along slowly but surely!

In addition to their invigorating escape rooms, they also have a party room in the back of the building—it includes tables and chairs for baby/wedding showers, birthday parties, and other special events! Placing their emphasis on all things local, they try to use catering services from places like Prince Street cafe to keep it as Lancaster County based as possible.

So… are you ready to ESCAPE? Book your adventure now!
