The Historic Ephrata Cloister

Historic Ephrata Cloister, founded in 1732, was a protestant monastic community. Members, mostly German immigrants, sought spiritual goals rather than earthly rewards.!

What We Offer

Admission to the historic site includes a self-guided exhibit in the Visitor Center , seven historic buildings which can be viewed before or after the guided tour, and a guided tour and self guided tour option. Daily guided tours on Monday through Saturday are offered at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 3:30pm. Tours on Sunday are offered at 12:30pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm. Admission to the site also includes self guided and guided tour options. A guided tour takes you inside the Sister’s dormitory and the Meetinghouse, two places unaccessible on the self guided tour.

Tours are available daily. Please call for tour times during winter hours.The Saron (Sisters’ House) and Saal (Meetinghouse) are only available for viewing on the guided tour. Tours begin with a 15 minute orientation video and last approximately one hour. Plan to spend at least 2 hours at the historic site.

The Ephrata Cloister offers events throughout the year the whole family can enjoy, from children to adults!
