Rebecca Gentry has been a resident of Lancaster County off and on since 1991. She studied ballet, jazz, and modern dance at the Lancaster School of Ballet, and performed with Ballet Theater of Lancaster. In 1997 she enrolled as a Ballet major at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City but quickly changed her focus from ballet to ballroom dance. She was active on the university’s ballroom dance team and competed as an amateur in several collegiate events. She graduated in 2002 with a degree in Mathematics and a passion for ballroom.
Immediately out of college, she began teaching full-time and has been on staff at both the Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire Dance Studios. She has competed nationally in Open Professional American Style Rhythm and, more recently, in Pro/Am events with her students. She has participated in all three productions of “Dancing for Dreams”, an event to benefit the Lancaster College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
She dances with the Grant Street Dance Company, is choreographer for Encore! Home School Productions and the liturgical dance coordinator at Hempfield United Methodist Church. She has been a studio owner since 2007, but realized a personal dream with the opening of City Ballroom.
